Summary

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Red Rising thrilled readers and announced the presence of a talented new author。 Golden Son changed the game and took the story of Darrow to the next level。 Now comes the exhilarating conclusion to the Red Rising Trilogy: Morning Star。

Darrow would have lived in peace, but his enemies brought him war。 The Gold overlords demanded his obedience, hanged his wife, and enslaved his people。 But Darrow is determined to fight back。 Risking everything to transform himself and breach Gold society, Darrow has battled to survive the cutthroat rivalries that breed Society’s mightiest warriors, climbed the ranks, and waited patiently to unleash the revolution that will tear the hierarchy apart from within。

Finally, the time has come。

But devotion to honor and hunger for vengeance run deep on both sides。 Darrow and his comrades-in-arms face powerful enemies without scruple or mercy。 Among them are some Darrow once considered friends。 To win, Darrow will need to inspire those shackled in darkness to break their chains, unmake the world their cruel masters have built, and claim a destiny too long denied—and too glorious to surrender。

I'm gonna be honest, this read was a bit of a roller coaster for me。 When I picked it up I was feeling a little fatigue at how tedious it felt like the story had gotten。 It isn't the books fault, per say。 But I find that sometimes when you read some long works by the same author back to back to back you can get some burn out。 Sometimes I just need a break before I dive back in, like a break between double features at a movie theatre to stretch and get popcorn。 So, I will admit, I wasn't really f I'm gonna be honest, this read was a bit of a roller coaster for me。 When I picked it up I was feeling a little fatigue at how tedious it felt like the story had gotten。 It isn't the books fault, per say。 But I find that sometimes when you read some long works by the same author back to back to back you can get some burn out。 Sometimes I just need a break before I dive back in, like a break between double features at a movie theatre to stretch and get popcorn。 So, I will admit, I wasn't really feeling the first half of this book。 I am definitely feeling a pattern in Brown's writing。 He tends to set up drama in his stories punctuated by moments of calm or false senses of safety。 So, for example, Darrow will fight his way through a fortress and barely get away with his life, then he will celebrate with his friends at a safe house。 They will all be talking about what to do next when, whatdoyaknow!, they are suddenly attacked again and have to adapt quickly。 The characters are kept perpetually on their feet and never really given time to rest or relax, unless it is done "off camera" or between events in the book。 The whole series is also written in a pattern where Darrow has numerous successes and seems unstoppable。 But then the book ends with some earth-shattering paradigm shift and you the reader are left in a lurch wondering "Oh boy! What happens next?!" I think I may be coming across more cynical than intended。 It isn't like the series is poorly written。 However there does seem to be a sense of grand melodrama that the series is fostering that can get a little tiresome at times。 As I mentioned, the first half of the book had me kinda burnt out。 I fully expected what happened to Darrow to happen。 In fact it felt like he was being clad with massive Plot Armor, given the kinds of things that he needed to overcome (sorry for vagueness, I'm trying not to spoil anything)。 In previous reviews I mentioned how I felt like the characters in the book all felt remarkably similiar and it was incredibly hard to keep track of who "Victra" or "Sevro" were。 Ironically, this book culls off a lot of characters from previous novels。 As a result, there were a lot of (IMO) forgettable characters who died, and I was able to better focus on the characters who lived。 This made the book more enjoyable in a way because I wasn't having to constantly remind myself "Wait, who was Antonia again?" In fact, I actually found myself mourning the death of several characters I had met in recent books, which allowed the book to hit home more。 The ending of the book jump started my interest, in part, because of how the paradigm shifts at the end。 The tension in this book is never really gone, in part because it so melodramatic。 However the tension during the conclusion was so satisfying to see come to fruition that I felt it made all the drama and tiresome plot of the first part。 It was honestly what made the book so enjoyable。 I think I will take a small month or so break from Pierce Brown for a while。 It's not that he's a bad writer, but I just feel like I need a change of pace from the Melodrama of this series for a while。 。。。more

What a bloodydamn fantastic ending to the original Red Rising trilogy! Every twist and turn had me on the edge of my seat。 This series has absolutely skyrocketed up into my top ten! The writing, the characters, the plot all had me enraptured! I haven’t fallen in love with a book series like this in a very long time and I am so glad I picked these up when I did! If you are still contemplating picking up this series just do it!

And outstanding end to this first trilogy。 I’m glad I hung on past Red Rising, because each book got better。 I am very much looking forward to the second trilogy, but won’t start it until the final book has a release date。

My heart stopped several times through out this book。 My poor sweet Darrow and his heart is what kept me reading and the future he wanted for everyone。 This book kept me on my toes and had my crying。 What an amazing book!

I enjoyed the ice world and valkyries when they went to Ragnars home, that was about it。 The ending is the only reason I’m giving this 4 stars。 IT WAS THAT GOOD OF AN ENDING。 Just wow! I’m so shook from this book and so annoyed that honesty it’ll take a miracle for me to finish the series。 The only book from the first three that I was crazy about was book 2。 Probably going to be the end of the road for me here, unless I hear differently once the 6th book comes out。 In my mind, where book 3 ended was perfect and I’d like to keep it that way :) 。。。more
